Όταν ο διαβόητος κατά συρροήν δολοφόνος Joe Carroll (Kevin Williamson) δραπετεύει από την πτέρυγα των θανατοποινιτών και ξεκινά ένα νέο μακελειό, το FBI καλεί τον πρώην πράκτορα Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon), ως σύμβουλο. O Ηardy, ήταν αυτός που συνέλαβε τον Carroll μετά την δολοφονία 14 φοιτητριών στο πανεπιστήμιο οπου δίδασκε λογοτεχνία. Μετά από αυτό, ο Hardy αποσύρθηκε από τη δημόσια ζωή.To FBI εκτιμά ότι υπάρχουν σήμερα πάνω από 300 ενεργοί κατά συρροήν δολοφόνοι στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες της Αμερικής. Τι θα συνέβαινε αν αυτοί οι δολοφόνοι είχαν έναν τρόπο να επικοινωνούν και να συνδέονται μεταξύ τους; Τι θα συνέβαινε αν ήταν σε θέση να συνεργαστούν και να σχηματίσουν συμμαχίες σε ολόκληρη τη χώρα; Τι θα συνέβαινε αν ένας ευφυής μανιακός δολοφόνος κατόρθωνε να τους ενώσει και να τους ενεργοποιήσει;
